Nike Demo Day

 

Nike Golf will host a demo day tomorrow,
June 1. All members are welcome to come out. This

event will be held on the range at Pine Needles
from 12:00 - 2:00pm.

Happy Memorial Day

Memorial Day is an American holiday that
honors men and women who died while serving in
the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration
Day, it originated in the years following the Civil
War and became an official Federal holiday in
1971. Many Americans celebrate Memorial Day
by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades.

 

The Civil War claimed more lives than any
conflict in U.S. history, requiring the
establishment of the country's first national
cemeteries. By the late 1860's Americans in
various towns and cities had begun holding
springtime tributes to these countless fallen
soldiers, decorating their graves with flowers
and reciting prayers.

 

In 1966 the Federal Government declared
Waterloo, New York, the official birthplace of
Memorial Day. Waterloo was chosen because it
hosted an annual, community-wide event. During
this event, businesses would close and residents
would decorate graves of soldiers with
flowers and flags.

 

 

For decades, Memorial Day was observed on
May 30, but in 1968 Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which established
Memorial Day as the last Monday in May in
order to create a three-day weekend for federal
employees. This change went into effect in 1971
and this same law declared Memorial Day as
a federal holiday.

MANNA! In Motion

 

Grab your running gear; it's almost time for the 8th MANNA! In
Motion 5K, and 10K Trail Race and 1-Mile Fun Run! This
event will be held at Sandhills Community College at 8:00am
on Saturday, June1. Come enjoy the sights and sounds of the
beautiful Reservoir Park in Southern Pines.

 

Currently, MANNA serves about 600 free lunches each week
at sites in Southern Pines, Taylortown, Vass, Aberdeen,
Jackson Hamlet, Carthage and Robbins.

Entry fee for the 5K and 10K race is $25
$20 discount for Sandhills Striders Members
$15 fee for active military

 

Preregistration will be Friday, May 31 from 5 - 7pm at
Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Southern Pines.

Proceeds benefit MANNA's mission to provide nourishing meals to
those who seek nourishment in a safe, warm and caring environment.

Courses to play while Mid Pines is under restoration

As most of you know Mid Pines Golf Course will close May 21
through early August for restoration. Once the restoration is done,
the greens at Mid Pines will be re-sprigged with one of the
ultra-dwarf Bermuda grasses that have spread in popularity
across the south. Listed below are the courses members will be able
to play during the time Mid Pines is closed.

Director of Golf Message

It is with mixed emotions that I inform everyone about a few
upcoming changes with our Golf Professional personnel that will be taking place later this summer. Todd Wilson and Adam Warren will
both be leaving Pine Needles and Mid Pines to pursue other opportunities

outside of golf. While both Todd and Adam have been valuable
assets to both Golf Operations, we are happy to see them grow
and expand their careers.

Todd has been one of our Golf Professionals since the fall of 2007
and I have had the opportunity to watch Todd grow into a great
Golf Professional and exceed our resort guests and members
expectations alike. Todd will be leaving us at the end of June and
moving closer to his home state of Indiana to pursue a
career outside of golf.

Adam has been one of our Golf Professionals for nearly 2 years and
much like Todd, Adam has done a tremendous job within our
Golf Operation to assist our resort guests and members with any
situation. Adam will be leaving us in mid-July to accept a position
with Wells Fargo in Charlotte.

Although we are saddened to lose Todd and Adam we are excited to
be able to bring new Golf Professionals to our facility to learn, grow
and expand their careers. We have been searching for the best candidates possible over the past few weeks so you will see a few
new faces to join Tyler, Chase and Dustin in our operation.

Speaking on behalf of Mid Pines, Pine Needles and the Bell family,
we wish Todd and Adam the best of luck with their new careers
and know they will do great!
